Cass Tech nemesis to county football teams

Cass Tech made quite an impression on Macomb County football during the post-season.
The Technicians played De La Salle and Eisenhower in consecutive weeks, and allowed only three points in the two games as the Detroit Public School team advanced to the Division 1 state championship game.
Cass Tech defeated Eisenhower 6-3 in a state semifinal game Nov. 19. The Eagles were champions of the Macomb Area Conference Red Division.
In a regional contest played Nov. 11, Cass Tech shut out De La Salle 6-0.
The Technicians are 4-0 in their last four playoff games against county competition.
In 2010, the Technicians defeated Dakota in a regional game.
In 2008, Cass Tech knocked off Warren-Mott in a pre-district game.
Cass Tech plays Detroit Catholic Central in the state final at Ford Field.

RECRUITING: Eisenhower's Geffert signs with Hillsdale for basketball

RECRUITING: L'Anse Creuse's Findlay signs with Georgia school

Siobhan Findlay of L'Anse Creuse signed a national letter of intent to continue her volleyball career at Kennesaw State University, in northwest Georgia. A member of the National Honor Society, Findlay was a four-year varsity player for the Lancers, and helped them win a league championship and two district crowns. Findlay is pictured with her parents, Barb and Jim Findlay.

RECRUITING: Stevenson's Kopicki signs with Florida school


Kelsie Kopicki signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Northwood University in West Palm Beach, Fla. She plans to major in sports management, her mother, Maria Kopicki, said. Kopicki's Titans won the MAC White Division championship and a district crown this season. Stevenson won a school-record 49 matches and Kopicki set a school record for career blocks.

RECRUITING: Regina's Verbic signs with Ferris State


Taylor Verbic of Regina signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Ferris State. She said she plans to pursue a degree in nursing, and attributes her success to past and present teammates, and appreciates having played for "the best coaches in the area." Three one-loss teams in Division 1 football semifinals

Eisenhower is in fast company in the state Division 1 football semifinal.
The Eagles are one of three teams that boast 11-1 records as the tournament makes its final stop before teams head to Ford Field for state finals.
The Eagles take on Detroit Cass Tech, the only D1 final four team with more than one loss, at 1 p.m. Saturday at Troy Athens.
In the other semifinal, Rockford takes on Detroit Catholic Central at 1 p.m. at Battle Creek Central.
Rockford and CC are 11-1.
Cass Tech is 9-3. The Technicians' losses came against Farmington Hills Harrison and Detroit Crockett, the latter having beaten Cass Tech twice.

Two MAC teams remain in football playoffs

Eisenhower and Marine City are the remaining Macomb Area Conference schools alive in the state football playoffs, which move to the semifinal round.
Marine City, the Gold Division champion, improved to 12-0 with a regional-round victory over Detroit Crockett. The Mariners won that game 15-7.
Eisenhower, the Red champion, is 11-1 after defeating Walled Lake Central 38-21 in a regional game.
The Eagles' lone loss came against Port Huron, which bowed out of the playoffs with a regional double-overtime loss to Walled Lake Western.

Eisenhower one step from Division 1 final

Eisenhower plays Detroit Cass Tech at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at Troy Athens in a Division 1 state semifinal football game. If the Eagles win, coach Bob Lantzy's team will advance to a state final for the fifth time in program history, all since 1999.
Cass Tech defeated De La Salle to earn the right to play Eisenhower. The Eagles beat Walled Lake Central in a regional championship game, following playoff triumphs over Dakota and Romeo.
Eisenhower is the only Macomb County team still in the playoffs.

Football coaching changes coming

Gary Faszholz (top) of Lutheran North and Bret Davis of Center Line will not return to their posts as head football coaches, each has said.
Faszholz had two stints as the Mustangs' coach.
