Utica to honor basketball coach Cleland Dame

Cleland Dame, a long-time boys and girls basketball coach at Utica High, will be inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 22. Dame has been in coaching for 55 years, the last 14 at Utica. “Cle is known for his expertise on teaching the fundamentals of the game to his players, especially developing great shooting habits,” Gerry Kraemer, boys varsity coach at UHS, said. Dame, whose other coaching stops included Richmond, Anchor Bay, Stevenson, Eisenhower and Malow Junior High, also is a member of the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at approximately 6:45 p.m., before the Chieftains’ game against Ford.
