Utica to honor basketball coach Cleland Dame

Dame, a long-time boys and girls basketball coach at Utica High, will be
inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Jan. 22. Dame has been in
coaching for 55 years, the last 14 at Utica. “Cle is known for his expertise on
teaching the fundamentals of the game to his players, especially developing
great shooting habits,” Gerry Kraemer, boys varsity coach at UHS, said. Dame,
whose other coaching stops included Richmond, Anchor Bay, Stevenson, Eisenhower
and Malow Junior High, also is a member of the Macomb County Coaches Hall of
Fame and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Hall of Fame. The
induction ceremony will take place at approximately 6:45 p.m., before the
Chieftains’ game against Ford.
