Armada hosts softball tournament
Here's a chance to see some of the better softball teams from Macomb County in one place.
Armada hosts Saturday a four-team tournament that includes Stevenson and Romeo from the Macomb Area Conference, along with Croswell-Lexington, a Blue Water Area Conference rival of the Tigers.
At 10 a.m., Armada plays Stevenson. At 11:30, Stevenson takes on Cros-Lex and at 1 p.m. Romeo plays Cros-Lex. At 2:30, Romeo meets Armada.
Romeo High’s Victoria Shaddock has signed to play softball at Concordia University in Ann Arbor.
“Victoria has an outstanding bat and is expected to come in and put it to use,” said Concordia coach Greg Brierley. “Victoria is an excellent infielder who can play second base, third base or shortstop. She will be looked at to be an example on and off the field.”
Concordia is an NAIA school and the Lady Cardinals compete in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference.
Drew Cushingberry is making a quick impact on the basketball team at Romeo.
The 6-foot-1 sophomore guard who wears uniform No. 4 scored 20 points Tuesday night in a 67-57 loss at Utica, the Bulldogs' first defeat of the season, following three victories before the holiday break.
"He's going to get better," Bulldogs coach Dale Teller said. "For a sophomore, he's extremely smart. He played an excellent game tonight."
Romeo and South Lake continue to lead The Macomb Daily's high school football rankings.
