De La Salle has a pair of basketball games in a holiday tournament at Battle Creek Central.

The Pilots, who won their first three games of the season with strong play from the likes of Marc Wouters (pictured), play Ann Arbor Skyline at 6 p.m. on Dec. 27.

Coach Greg Esler's team takes on Grand Rapids Union at 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 28.

Richmond plays host Cardinal Mooney in the Cardinals' girls basketball holiday tournament in Marine City.

On Dec. 26, Algonac plays Hamtramck, and the Blue Devils and Cardinal Mooney square off.

Opening-round losing teams play each other, and first-round winners meet, on Dec. 28.

Richmond and New Haven, former rivals in the Southern Thumb Association, play one another in a first-round game in the Michigan Collegiate holiday boys basketball tournament.

The host Cougars play Harper Woods, coached by former New Haven coach Russ Collins, in the other first-round game.

Dec. 28: Richmond vs. New Haven, 5:30 p.m.; Harper Woods vs. Michigan Collegiate, 7:15 p.m.

Dec. 30: First-round losing teams, 5:30 p.m.; first-round winners, 7:15 p.m.

Michigan Collegiate features Tommie Bush, the 2011 Macomb County football Player of the Year.

Richmond is now in the Blue Water Area Conference and New Haven in the Macomb Area Conference.

Cousino and Regina play in opposite brackets in the Southgate Anderson girls basketball holiday tournament.
Regina plays New Boston Huron at 6 p.m. on Dec. 27, and Cousino plays Southgate Anderson at 8.
First-round losing teams play at 6 p.m., and winners meet at 8, on Dec. 28.

Three boys basketball teams from the Macomb Area Conference and one from the Catholic League make up the field for the Crusader Classic that will be Dec. 27-28 at L'Anse Creuse North.
Orchard Lake St. Mary of the Catholic League takes on Cousino at 6 p.m. on the opening night of the ninth annual tournament. At 7:30, Anchor Bay plays the host Crusaders.
The consolation game starts at 6 p.m. the following night, and the championship game, matching the winners from opening night, tips off at 7:30.
L'Anse Creuse North is in the MAC Red Division, Cousino in the White and Anchor Bay in the Blue.

A pair of defending state-champion wrestling teams will square off against one another to help raise funds for Scott Norton, a former Richmond and Romeo wrestler who has a brain tumor. Richmond, the defending Division 3 champion, and Hudson, which won the Division 4 title in 2011, meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 27 at Richmond in the Blue Devils’ annual Alumni Night match. Proceeds from the non-league match go to help Norton with medical expenses. Also, Chaps Food & Spirits restaurant in Richmond will hold a fundraiser starting at 3 p.m. the day of the match.

Craig Morris, who coached Stevenson to eight district tournament championships and won more than 300 games with the Titans, will be honored prior to the start of the Titans' boys game against Mount Clemens on Dec. 16. Morris was the Macomb County Coach of the Year in 1970, and he coached three winners of the county Player of the Year award. Stevenson won a Class A regional championship under Morris in 1983, and the Titans were powers in the Eastern Michigan League and Macomb Athletic (Area) Conference under Morris, who also coached golf at the school. Morris is a member of the Macomb County Coaches Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 2009. He also coached basketball at Clintondale.

Bob Lantzy's retirement has given Dakota's Mike Giannone the distinction of being the longest-serving head football coach at a Macomb County high school.
Giannone, pictured above, took over the Dakota program in 1998, for the Cougars' third season of play.
That gives him 14 years at the helm of the program that won state championships in 2006 and 2007.
Mike Powell of Cousino and Don Roda of L'Anse Creuse have been in place at their schools for 13 seasons, each having taken over in 1999.
Lantzy coached his 41st season at Eisenhower in 2011. He announced his retirement Nov. 30.
