Indiana to weigh return to one-class basketball tournament
Indiana might not have seen the last of its one-class high school basketball tournament.
Bobby Cox, the commissioner of the state high school athletic association, who has been pressured by Indiana legislators, has scheduled 11 "town hall" meetings in April and May to gauge interest in returning to the one-class format, The Associated Press reported.
The Hoosier state scrapped the one-class tournament, which was romanticized in print, and the movie "Hoosiers," after the 1997 season.
Supporters of the multi-class system say it gives more schools opportunities to win state championships.
But those who want a return to one tournament for all schools say the multi-class format devalues the tournament and has depressed attendance.
