L'Anse Creuse grad stars in college track

FORT WAYNE, IND. - Indiana Tech sophomore Shayla France, a L’Anse Creuse grad, helped lead the Warriors to their first national title at the 2013 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held in Marion, Indiana on May 23-25.


France ran a leg of the winning 400 meter relay team, which smashed the school record in the process. She also earned All-American status in three other events finishing second in the 100 hurdles, sixth in the 100 dash, and fourth in the 200 dash.
The sophomore was one of eight individual/relay champions for the Warriors at the meet as well as one of 31 Indiana Tech athletes to earn All-American accolades.

Thinking Pink at Ike


The Eisenhower varsity softball team’s Pink Game will be Wednesday, May 22, against MAC Red Division rival Romeo. The doubleheader starts at 4.
Proceeds will be used to help the Taken With Teal Team and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Michelle Shell, a Taken With Teal team captain, is the niece of Deborah Krenzel, an employee at Eisenhower. The Taken With Teal Team is made up of family and friends whose lives have been touched by different types of cancer far too many times. 
In addition, this year the American Cancer Society is celebrating its 100th birthday.
The concession stand will be open during the doubleheader. Hot dogs, drinks, snacks and T-shirts will be available.

Stevenson in baseball Pink Game Friday

When defending Division 1 MHSAA baseball champ Hudsonville welcomes  Stevenson Friday, May 10, at 5 p.m.,  the two highly-ranked teams will also do battle with another foe.
The two teams will be doing their part to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money for this cause with a Pink Game, that PlayOn! Sports, an MHSAA Network television partner, will televise as part of its Xfinity Spring sports coverage.
Hudsonville is ranked fourth in the May 2 edition of the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Division 1 rankings, and Stevenson is ranked ninth.
Each week’s featured game will be presented by Xfinity to viewers on Comcast Channel 900 on the following Tuesday at 7 and 9:30 p.m., with additional replays throughout the week most weeks on Wednesdays at 8 and 10:30 a.m.; Saturdays at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sundays at 6 p.m.  The games will be online for Xfinity subscribers at HighSchoolSports.Xfinity.com, and highlights will also be available on the Xfinity on Demand service.
